South City Kitchen

June 6, 2018

Praise the Lord, I tried something different!

I visited  the Avalon location of South City Kitchen when one of my best friend's came home for a weekend.

We were seated very quickly even though it was a pretty busy evening. I noticed there were quite a few young professionals there, maybe having drinks + dinner after work?

The restaurant was very dimly lit, so perfect for a date night!

When they brought out the bread I was interested to see what was going on. It was a combination of biscuits and corn bread. Both were served with butter. The biscuits were ok, not the best biscuits I've ever had. That cornbread though!!! The cornbread was the perfect amount of sweet and had actual chunks of corn inside.  I've never had cornbread with corn inside; it's a must try if you ever have the opportunity to.

What I ordered:

  • Springer Mountain Farms Fried Chicken
  • Drink of choice: Bloomer Rebellion

My best friend got the shrimp and grits which I regret not sampling!

This fried chicken is how fried chicken should be done, the prototype. I had to have a bite of everything on my plate together. Once again, I typically try to avoid the crust on fried food but not this time. There was some kind of honey glaze in the crust. The greens were good, your standard vegetables, nothing to write home about. The mashed potatoes had potential! They weren't bad, but they needed more garlic, butter and salt. Again, the chicken is what sold me. As always, I was very sad when it was gone because I inhaled it too quickly.

My drink was a little on the strong side, but it was still tasty!

Bonus points: They have gluten free options!

Our waitress was incredibly sweet and patient with us!

After eating here I had to tell everybody about it for a good week.

Next time I visit, I'm bringing another friend and persuading them to order this so I can eat off of their plate, because I am shameless.
