CHOPT - Toco Hills

May 20, 2019

I'm notorious for eating at the same restaurants because
  1. comfort
Don't get me wrong, I like to try new things but on my terms! During finals week I decided to venture out and try a new restaurant a few miles away from campus. A classmate suggested "Chopt" for lunch one day and I wasn't completely sold until I walked in. Think about it, how exciting can a salad be?

What is "Chopt"? It's basically a salad bar with infinite options!

Initial thoughts: I was extrememly overwhelmed! There are so many options of how you can make your salad.  I had a sneak peek when I downloaded the app but I still changed my mind approximate 4 times before I got to the counter and made a final decision.

I really appreciate how they allow you to sample the dressings instead of just sticking you with something.

I also liked how they mixed in the dressing and it was evenly distributed throughout. Typically I like my dressing on the side but they mixed my salad in such a way that it wasn't too overpowering.

What I ordered:
  • Baja shrimp salad: romaine lettuce, cabbage and cilantro blend, Baja shrimp, carrots, scallions, blue corn tortilla strips, and pickled raddish.
  • I added: tomato,  feta cheese, and the creamy lemon herb dressing.
Overall, it's nice to have healthy options so close to school. It limits the excuse of "I'm in nursing school, I don't have time to eat healthily." I wanted to say it was pricey but when I thought about how much money I invest in 1 day on McDonald's, Wingstop, Chick Fil A and Zaxby's - it comes out to about the same amount if not more.  $14 for a salad isn't bad considering they're fresh + locally sourced ingredients and it gave me 2 meals.

I can't wait to go back and try more menu options once school starts back up!

Bonus: The restaurant is vegan + vegetarian-friendly!

I finished a little more than half of my bowl before I was full.

Just a fraction of the ingredients they offer

I thought this was pretty cool - they have a dry erase board that lists all of their local partners they source ingredients from.
